About Us

We're Cavataio's Restaurant & Pizzeria, and we've been a pizza restaurant here in Staunton, IL, since 1988. Family-owned and operated, we serve up pizza, ravioli, spaghetti, gnocchi, lasagna, sandwiches, tiramisu, cannolis, and much more. We're looking forward to growing our business to continue to serve Carlinville, Edwardsville, Litchfield, Highland, and surrounding areas. We'd like to personally invite you today to stop by for your next meal!

Our Story

Born and raised in Italy and growing up around the restaurant business, our owner Vincent and his wife Cathy wanted to continue their family’s tradition and style of restaurant and provide those high quality dishes right here for the Staunton community and surrounding areas. Classic Italian cuisine is renowned worldwide for its simplicity, quality ingredients, and emphasis on bold flavors, and that’s exactly what we bring to the table at Cavataio's Restaurant & Pizzeria. We’re a premier Italian restaurant established in 1988 that specializes in classic Italian pizza, pastas with handcrafted sauces, and our unlimited build your own salad bar as well as other mouthwatering courses.

Our talented chefs blend fresh and mouthwatering ingredients into our classic Italian recipes that have been perfected over generations. We offer the freshest ingredients and the best homemade sauce for both our pasta and pizzas that is made in-house daily. We offer traditional Italian appetizers such as toasted ravioli, garlic bread and formaggio sticks that are perfect for sharing and will have your taste buds jumping, as well as a selection of delectable sandwiches if you’re in the mood to switch things up.

We want everyone who comes and shares a meal with us to have a wonderful experience with delicious food and an extended family feel. We’re proud to be able to offer meals that have been a part of our families for generations, and we’ve been so many amazing personal relationships providing the food, drinks, and ambiance we love. We also offer a kid’s menu offering little one’s favorites like chicken tenders, hamburgers, or a smaller portion of our pastas or pizza.

The food and care is typical Italian but the owners (Caterina and her husband who moved to the USA about 40 years ago) have managed to adapt the cuisine to the American style to suit everyone's tastes. A decidedly successful exercise given the quality of the dishes served and the quantity of local people who crowded the restaurant (it was full at lunch and it was Friday). Caterina and her family have managed to bring the spirit of Italian cuisine to the other side of the world, readjusting it to the needs but maintaining the basic characteristics of our culinary tradition, an example of a successful entrepreneurial story that can only make us Italians proud ! Il cibo e la cura è tipica italiana ma i proprietari (Caterina e suo marito trasferiti in USA circa 40 anni fa) sono riusciti a riadattare la cucina allo stile americano per assecondare il gusto di tutti. Un esercizio decisamente riuscito vista la qualità delle pietanze servite e la quantità di persone locali che affollavano il ristorante (era pieno a pranzo ed era venerdì). Caterina e la sua famiglia sono riusciti a portare lo spirito della cucina italiana dall'altra parte del mondo, riadattandola all'esigenza ma ferme le caratteristiche base della nostra tradizione culinaria, un esempio di storia imprenditoriale di successo che non può che rendere orgogliosi noi italiani! There is really nothing super fancy about the salad bar but it is just so good that it makes me want to dine in there just for salad. The owners are super amazing people. During covid they made sure all of the area kids had lunch and they made the news. Their pizzas are pretty terrific as well as the service.
